During nitrocellulose production, some variables are controlled according to its application requirements. The different types of products are mainly characterized in relation to the nitrogen content and viscosity (or polymerization degree).
Nitrocellulose with high nitrogen content (HN) has between 11.8% and 12.3% of this element in its formula. The product is soluble in esters, ketones and glycols and insoluble in alcohols, except methanol, and when mixed with the solvents above. The product with low nitrogen content (LN) has between 10.8% and 11.3% of the component in its formula and is quite soluble in alcohols.
The nitrocellulose polymerization degree is determined by the average amount of beta glucose contained in one molecule of resin. The result indicates the product's viscosity. Nitro Química manufactures products with high, medium and low viscosity.
Nitrocellulose may be moistened with ethanol (ETA) or isopropanol (IPA). See the technical specifications table.
