The Family Action program in São Miguel is an initiative of the Tide Setúbal Foundation and the Alana Institute, in partnership with Nitro Química, Votorantim Metais and the Undermunicipality of São Miguel Paulista. The main goal is to strengthen the independence and improve the life quality of families living in the districts of Jardim Lapenna, Jardim Pantanal and Jardim São Vicente.
The Programme, that began in 2007, serves 300 families with a high degree of social vulnerability (according to a classification used by the Seade Foundation). These are families that do not have resources nor access to basic services such as health and education.
One of the basic assumptions is that strengthening family, community and social ties will allow the families to grow and enable them to find, as a community, solutions to improve the community as a whole and their quality of life.
