The shutdown of the American artificial silk producer, Tubize Chatillon Corporation, brought together the industrial Wolf Klabin and businessman José Ermírio de Moraes, at this time the Chief Executive Officer of Votorantim industries, to create the first Brazilian company operating in this segment - the Companhia Nitro Química Brasileira, on September 11, 1935.
The newborn company imported all its machinery directly from the state of Virginia, in the United States, where the Tubize Chatillon Corporation, a company also associated with the project, had been functioning. A total of 18 thousand tonnes of materials were transported to the then-rural neighborhood of São Miguel Paulista, in the city of São Paulo, where the company is still located today.
